Marijuana and Weight Loss – What’s the Relationship?

It is no secret that obesity has become a huge (pun intended) problem in the United States in the last few decades or so. In fact, there has been a decent amount of pressure on various food and beverage companies to be more transparent about the products they make because of it. At least now that the FDA has their hands in everything, Americans are better educated about what they are eating and how it affects their body. Still, there is a huge problem in our nation that stems from obesity. Obesity can affect the body’s ability to function properly – it can cause loss of sleep, loss of energy, mental health problems, chronic pain, and diseases that can be fatal.

When it comes to losing weight, studies have shown that most results happen in the kitchen. More specifically, the diet that an individual lives by is super important. However, there are many other factors that go into weight gain or loss that are not always dependent on diet or exercise, and not many people understand this. When you think of losing weight, marijuana is probably one of the last things that comes to mind for being able to help. Well, I don’t blame you.

We have all had our fair share of munchie filled nights. Smoking a few bowls can lead to eating an entire bag of cheetos and a pint of ice cream, and still leave you wanting more. Yeah, I totally get it. However, it is important to keep in mind that not all marijuana strains are the same in that regard. What I mean by that is the munchies can be more prominent when smoking certain strains. Did you know that some strains of cannabis even help to suppress your appetite? Yeah, it’s true. I bet you never thought about using cannabis for dieting. Well, now you can at least try and see what happens for yourself.

Remember, the most important thing that you can do to lose weight consistently is to eat better and get exercise several days a week. However, there are other things that you can do to aid in this process, and using weed to suppress your appetite may be one of them. I don’t recommend turning to weed simply as a means to lose weight, but if you are someone who already enjoys smoking weed and wants to lose weight, then you may as well try these strains to see if they are helpful for you. The first strain that I want to talk about is called Durban Poison. No, this strain is not going to poison you. In fact, many marijuana users love this strain for its high THC content, which can range from 25 to 30% depending on the dispensary you find it in. Either way, this strain is going to get you super high, while also keeping you from wanting to eat everything in your entire fridge. However, since it is such a heavy hitting strain, it is best suited for medical or recreational users that have had their fair share of weed. I would avoid using this strain right off the get go if you are just a beginner with cannabis.

Another strain that can help in losing weight is called Girl Scout Cookies. Now I know what you’re thinking – how on earth would I be able to lose weight with a marijuana strain named after cookies? Well, it gets its name because of how delicious the aroma and taste is, but it won’t cause you to have the munchies.
